This mosaic was the first large smalti mosaic I made. Smalti is a type of mosaic glass. It is made in two places in the world – in Ravenna, Itally and in Cuernavaca, Mexico. This mosaic is made with Mexican smalti.
I love Mexican smalti because it has such strange and wonderful color variations. The variations fit with my mosaic design aesthetics. I like to work with irregularities and differences – it looks more natural to my eye...
Right now this mosaic is hanging in my gallery. It has been purchased and will be hand-delivered later this month.
