This mosaic was my first "large" mosaic – before this I had made mosaics that were 1 square foot or less.
The Flock is made from 3/4 inch vitreous glass tiles which I split into fourths to make 3/8 inch tessarae. I generally split the tiles into fourths unless I am working on a large mosaic. I also prefer the irregular shapes of the split tessarae to the perfect squares of the uncut tiles.
This mosaic was purchased by Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and now resides in the university's permanent collection. It is currently displayed in the foyer area of the Lillian Davis Hogan Galleries on the Winona campus.
